I-Quest Intern Program - 2008
A Missions Intern Program for Young Adults

UPDATE AS OF 11/29/07:  All female interns have been selected for 2008.  We have two male intern opportunities to fill.  If you are a female and would like to receive any notice of change for the 2008 opportunities or updates for future opportunities, please send your full name, phone number with area code and mailing address to wendy@acexperience.org.   Thanks!

“A Life-Changing Summer in the Caribbean”
Consider this once in a lifetime opportunity! Spend two months of intense ministry on the tropical island of Jamaica learning more about yourself, your God, and the people He loves! The I-Quest intern program is an opportunity to find out who you are and what God has in store for your life. We are looking for young adults who have a genuine love for people, a desire to learn, and a willingness to serve.  If you feel led to serve in Jamaica for more than just a one-week trip, an intern position could be for you! Let American Caribbean Experience change your life by allowing you to change the lives of others!  Experience the most challenging, yet rewarding summer of your life! You will be pushed physically, spiritually,  and emotionally. You will leave the island at the end of the summer a deeper Christian, a stronger leader, and a more humble servant. Your understanding of missions in a developing country will be extensive after these two months. You’ll return home prepared for broader mission experiences and with a global perspective in your everyday life.  As an added benefit, your learning and growing will all take place with a beautiful beach backdrop and refreshing sea breeze!

What does an intern do?
The intern team is a vital part of our summer ministry, as this is our busiest time of year for short-term mission trips. Our interns help lead the American teams and work directly with the Jamaicans. Interns organize projects that change from summer to summer depending on the skills you bring to our mission and the needs of the community.

We want to make the most of your God-given talents and interests! You may teach swimming or music lessons, run sports clinics, tutor school children, lead construction crews or teach us all something new!  What we really need are individuals who are willing to do whatever, however, whenever!  We are looking for interns who are flexible and willing to serve with a positive attitude, putting the mission’s needs above their own.

The Fine Print
The cost for the summer is $2,500 for everything you need:
• Airline ticket up to $600
• Short-term insurance
• Food
• Lodging
• Transportation
• Off days
• Pre-summer training
• Required reading books and training materials.

We encourage you to raise this money early in the year. Any money that you raise above and beyond the cost of the summer will be sent to you at the end of the summer in the form of a stipend.

I-Quest is like a boot camp for missions, so we have certain expectations and disciplines in place for our interns.  Please read carefully and, if you do not think you can follow these rules, please do not apply.

• No laptops, iPods, cell phones – don’t even bring them
• No smoking, chewing tobacco, or alcohol
• VERY limited internet access
• Only 30 minutes of US phone calls a week
• No dating other interns, team members, or staff
• Girls – no body piercing and only one-piece bathing suits or tankinis
• Guys – no facial hair, earrings, or body piercing.

These rules are not in place because of religious beliefs, but rather to be sensitive to the conservative culture in which we are working and to build the discipline of sacrifice within each intern, keeping you focused on the real reason you are there – to serve.

Please also be sure you are physically fit!  Plenty of days will begin at 6 am and you will crash into bed at 10 pm or later. Much walking will be necessary throughout each day.

Before coming to Jamaica, we will have mandatory training in Atlanta April 18-20, 2008. Mark your calendars now! You will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from Atlanta. We will cover all your expenses while you are there for the weekend. You will also be expected to read a few books before coming to Jamaica, as the Bible Studies you will have as a team build from these readings. You will be asked to purchase and bring with you a specific version of the Bible to be used in studies as well.

Changing Lives. Transforming Communities.
Come spend the summer on a tropical island, living in a home overlooking the Caribbean Sea, developing significant relationships with your peers all the while meeting hundreds of Christians from all across America!  And while you’re there, enjoy your off days on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, become a star in the eyes of a young Jamaican child, and return home more fulfilled than ever!  As ACE strives to change lives, we will start with yours, enabling you to change the lives of others.

Together, we can and will transform the community of St. Mary, Jamaica!

How do I apply? Fill out the on-line application and get the ball rolling!
