While the economy has slowed down here in Jamaica, our ACE Mobile Infirmary (AMI) program continues to thrive as we welcome new faces to the program! That’s because we believe our elders in need within our community deserve to have their basic needs like food and water met, while also receiving prayer and spiritual development.
A 2024 study found that 18% of Jamaicans over the age of 60 live below the poverty line and risk facing malnutrition and isolation (Planning Institute of Jamaica). But we’re proud to share that ACE has visited 260 elders so far this year, 50 of which were completed in August alone.
There are several ways we find elders to care for, from local church members to healthcare personnel.
Take Catherine from Hampstead as an example. She was on the list that we received from the healthcare personnel. Another recent addition to our program is 34-year-old Arianna, whom we met through a caregiver while on an AMI trip in Mason Hall.
Henry (75) and Bernice (98) Grandison are also new to the program and have been married for over 30 years. While they did not have children together, Bernice had two sons, both of whom have passed away. Henry is bedridden due to a stroke he had in 2023, while Bernice is visually impaired and cannot hear very well.
Finally, Shirley is still farming at 87 years old and producing pimento, bananas, plums, and more. She is still able to actively attend church and is her own caregiver, but what a blessing it is to meet all of these elders’ needs within our community!
Please join us in prayer, that we can continue to find elders to feed and love on, as well as raise the funds to provide for their most urgent and basic needs, no questions asked.
And if you’d like to go a step further and help support our program financially, please consider purchasing items such as Depends, canned foods, and toiletries from our Amazon wishlist below. You can also make a donation online here and select ACE Mobile Infirmary as your donation designation.
Thank you for partnering with us to combat Jamaica’s poverty while continuing to spread God’s love throughout our community.
With love,
Althia
