We are continuing to closely monitor Tropical Storm Melissa as it makes its way closer to Jamaica. The latest advisory mentions that the storm is crawling at just 2 mph and could be life-threatening for the island of Jamaica.
Days of relentless rain, fierce winds, and devastating floods are upon us, and while we’re no strangers to hurricane season, we can also recognize when a storm is more severe than most. Tropical Storm Melissa is reminding us of Hurricane Ivan from 2004, which completely devastated the island.
Yet we hold firm to the promise that God is in control and He is over all things. We are praying (and asking that you partner with us in prayer) that Jesus will protect our nation, our people, our ministry, and the work He is doing through ACE in Jamaica. Above all, we ask that God be glorified in everything, no matter what happens with Tropical Storm Melissa.
In addition to prayer, we know that there is also power in preparation. We’ve been hustling here at ACE to safeguard our grounds, equipment, and overall ministry. We’ve taken up and stored all outdoor pipes and carefully closed up all of our beehive equipment. Our newly acquired and set-up aeroponic towers have been wrapped up to safely secure them and keep them from blowing away. All hoses were rolled up and stowed away. And most of our smaller equipment, like our chocolate machines, have been unplugged and tied up with garbage bags. We’ve also moved the cows to higher ground.
It’s meticulous work, but if it gives us a chance to protect our micro-businesses, initiatives, and ministry as a whole from costly damage, every extra measure we take is well worth it.
Storms like Melissa test our preparedness, resilience, and sustainability, but they also remind us to be that much more grateful for our staff, who have been working tirelessly in the threat of the storm to help secure our grounds and equipment. We’re also incredibly thankful for you, our ACE friends, family, and supporters, for partnering with us in prayer that everyone and everything will remain safe and protected.
Stay tuned on social media for more updates. We’ll keep you posted as Mean Melissa approaches.
